State and Federal OSHA standards are covered as well as safe driving techniques. This course is hands-on. Participants will be directed and coached though obstacles. Driving, picking, and placing loads are practiced.
First Aid / CPR

Competencies:
The American Red Cross standard First Aid Course. This course covers responding to an emergency rescue breathing and CPR. The first aid section addresses control bleeding, wounds, burns, and immobilizing broken bones. Sudden illnesses such as diabetic emergencies and seizures are covered as well.
Traffic Safety and Flagging

Competencies:
This course is designed to introduce the participant to the process of controlling traffic flow safely through construction zones with the correct placement of signs, cones, and barricades. The basic function of stopping and releasing traffic, dealing with hostile motorists, and recognizing dangerous situations are also addressed. Both the Cal Trans and Watch Manual are covered in detail. The course is designed as a minimum requirement for addressing taper lengths and advanced warning for heavy and highway work.
Environmental Hazards of Highway Work & OSHA 10

Competencies:
The OSHA 10 class is a DOL certified class which gives the participant an overview of OSHA and the regulations designed to keep the worker safe. It covers topics such as OSHA Inspections, Health and Hazard Communication, Tools, PPE, Electrical, Scaffold, Fall Protection and other constructions related topics. Environmental Hazards of Highway Work is a 4 hour course designed to teach the participant to identify possible dangers and hazards in the workplace such as chemical, plants, insects, snakes, etc. as well as the PPE and practices that keep the worker safe.
